Blog 2 - Exploring Music Video

In this section I will be analysing four different music videos and commenting on various parts including their; Genre, representation, narrative and also how long the video communicates a meaning. During class we watched an episode of Channel 4's 50 greatest music videos and were asked to go away and study the four music videos of our choice providing they all had various different styles etc.

The four videos I will be analysing and comparing are;
- Run DMC & Aerosmith - Walk this way
- Johnny Cash - Hurt
- Lady Gaga - Poker Face
- Sinead O'Connor - Nothing compares

Genre: Rap v Hardrock -
Rap refers to "spoken or chanted" rhyming lyrics

Hardrock is a heavy use of disorted electric guitars, bass guitar, drums, and often pianos and keyboards.

Genre: Country Music - of which is a blend of popular musical forms originally found in the Southern United States and the Appalachian Mountains. It has roots in traditional folk music.

Genre: Pop - consists of relatively short and simple love songs and utilizing technological innovations to produce new variations on existing themes.

Genre: Rock/Soft Rock - a genre of popular music that entered the mainstream in the 1960s. It has its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll,rhythm and blues, country music and also drew on folk music, jazz and classical music.
